Apologies were received and recorded from six members.

Minutes of the meeting of Thursday 15 October 2009 were read and signed as a true record by Mrs Wood.

Matters arising: there were no matters arising from the October meeting,

President 1.Mrs Wood told members about the very successful Proms Evening at the Angel Suite in Brigg. She mentioned a Christmas decoration made at a W.I. craft day by Mrs Valerie Lancaster which will be shown to members at the next meeting.
2. The visit to Messingham W.I. on Monday 7 December has been arranged with 12 members wishing to attend. A letter has been sent to the hosts and transport arranged.
3. Members were asked if they wished to change the date of our July meeting in order not to clash with the presentation by the Royal Navy on 15 July 2010. After some discussion it was decided to meet on Thursday July 22nd, which will be members’ night.
4. Members were asked to pay for the annual Dinner in January at the next meeting.
5. A request was made that the resolution slips in W.I. Life should be filled in by individual members and given to the secretary so that numbers of votes for each resolution may be collated and sent to W.I. House.

Correspondence

Federation Newsletter was perused and items of interest pointed out. A slip for names for Saturday 30 January 2010 WI House Hand Bell Ringing was circulated.

Finances Mrs Lancaster reported that the current account stands at £686.24, the bursary account at £143.63 and cash held is £7.96. A further 328.74 had been paid in at the meeting. The ACWW jar had been emptied and £12.00 dispatched. The Knicker Jar was circulated and the money collected is to be sent off.

News Slot  Pam Wells reminded everyone about the Christmas Concert: Tuesday 8 December 2009 at 7pm  £2.50 adults and £1.00 children at the Village Hall and Sandra Wilkinson mentioned that tickets were still available for the New Years Eve Ball to be held at the Village Hall from 8pm at £20.00.

Monthly Speaker. Mrs Wood then welcomed Alan and Rosanna from Special Edition Chocolates who had brought a fine selection of chocolates from their premises near Market Rasen. Alan opened his talk by saying that although we were all in the throes of Christmas preparation, he was preparing to deliver Easter eggs to Debenhams and BHS by 18th December. Alan pointed out the many health benefits of eating good quality chocolate and that more than 70% solids was recommended even for people with type 2 diabetes and heart disease. He gave a detailed description of the growth, harvesting and processing of the cocoa bean and some very interesting historical detail.
Known in many parts of the world from ancient times, cocoa arrived in London and Paris in 1658 and became a popular drink despite the heavy taxation it attracted. Dr Fry made the first chocolate bar in 1848 and Nestles the first milk bar in 1878. All the early importers were Quakers who, being barred from the professions by their religion, became astute businessmen and traders.
During the talk, Rosanna kept members constantly supplied with samples from their range of 24 flavours, favourites being strawberry and peppercorn, chilli and ginger and the milk version of lime. She also applied cocoa butter to all the ladies hands and described its many benefits and properties. At the end of the presentation, there was a long queue to buy from the great variety of goods displayed.
Mrs Wood thanked Alan and Rosanna on behalf of the members for a wonderful evening of facts, fun and food which was much enjoyed.

The competition for a china sweet dish was judged by Alan.
1st   Mary Nuttell      2nd  Margaret Ward      3rd  Pam Wells

Hostesses were Jackie Bateman, Heather Bateman and Margaret Ward who also provided the mystery parcels which were won by Sandra Wilkinson, Jean McAvoy, Pam Wells and Christine Wood.

Date of next meeting Thursday 17 December Dave Warren with a film show of his holiday in Nepal
The competition is for a Holiday Photograph
The hostesses and mystery parcels will be Margaret Kitchen, Margaret Johnson and Carole Smith
