Minutes of the meeting of Winteringham W.I held on Thursday 19 August 2010 at the Village Hall at 7.30pm.
The President welcomed twenty one members and one guest and commented on the tempting array of dishes at the back of the hall.
Apologies were recorded from eighteen members unable to attend.
Minutes of the meeting held on Thursday 22July 2010 were read and agreed as a true record. They were signed by the President.
Matters arising - there were no matters arising.
President's remarks Members were reminded about the Federation events sheets being on a table and were asked to sign up at break time. Lists were also on the table for a possible visit to Carlton Towers for the Craft exhibition on Friday 17 September, the 2011 Calendar order and a theatre group visit to Hull Truck. Mrs Hammond said that it is not too early to be thinking about our 85th birthday in 2012. A paper had been left out for members to suggest ways for us to celebrate. Following an idea from committee, members were asked to send a postcard from their holiday or a day out to the President or secretary, to be read out at the next meeting and all displayed at the AGM. The first card had already been received from a group who had visited an exhibition of Wedding dresses at Doddington hall. There will be a report from the branch meetings in the Parish news letter each month - the first one was on display. The tickets for the annual NFWI will be on sale-60% of money raised goes to our local federation. Correspondence 2010 Resolution papers and examples of letters to be sent to MP's were available for members to see. Federation Newsletter Numerous forthcoming events were mentioned.
Finances Mrs Lancaster reported that the current account stands at £1090.73 with £20.49 in cash and £143.69 in the bursary account.
News Slot Marjorie Smith reported on the progress of the walking group A number of successful and enjoyable walks had taken place, though often with low numbers. It is hoped to continue during the winter months. Letters has been received thanking helpers at the recent Art and Gardens day. Reminders were given about the forthcoming Chapel Anniversary and possible future activities for the Theatre Group were discussed. Mrs Lancaster said that beyond some initial research, she had not had time to deal further with the Garden Club.
This being our Taste and Bake evening, the President suggested that the tasting begin at once. All ladies present had brought a copy of their favourite recipe and samples for everyone to taste. Faced with a sumptuous array of savoury dishes and many cakes, desserts and delicacies the members tasted and commented on them all, helped along by tea and coffee served by the committee. A quiz, Naughty but Nice, organised by the President and hotly contested, was much enjoyed and won after several tie breaker questions by Heather, Jackie, Dorothy and Sally who received small prizes. The recipes will be made into a booklet for members so everyone can try their own particular favourite.
Mrs Hammond thanked the entire group for such a wonderful spread and helping to make a successful and enjoyable evening.
The competition winners were decided by members placing coins near their favourite recipe, helping to raise funds for ACWW. 1st Sandra Wilkinson 2nd Jackie Bateman 3rd Annie Armstrong
Mystery Parcels provided by the committee were won by Mary Nuttell, Marianne Ogg, Valerie Lancaster, Christine Hammond and Mary Christoffersen.
Date of next meeting Thursday 16 September 2010- Hats and Chats The competition is for a Posh Hat The hostesses will be Jenny, Sue and Karen - with help as necessary as we are expecting guests from Appleby, Roxby and Alkborough-29 have accepted the invitation.
