Winteringham W.I. April 2007

The new president, Mrs Christine Wood welcomed 29 members and one guest to the April meeting of Winteringham W.I.

The demonstrator, Josephine Wallace had challenged the members to bring along unusual containers for her to fill with flowers. There had been a huge response and Josephine drew tickets to select the containers which she would be using.

The first one selected was a china Cockerel and Josephine very cleverly used a tied arrangement which included orange carnations and greenery to represent the bird’s colourful tail feathers. A white and chrome teapot was filled with an arrangement of white carnations and roses and fern and a ‘glass handkerchief’ with a posy arrangement of lemon carnations, parrot tulips and greenery.

Josephine created another posy arrangement to fill a ‘little orange jug’ and then a ‘whisky tube’ was picked out of the draw. Steel Grass, Swiss Cheese Plant leaves and golden flowers were used in this arrangement.

Next to be picked was a pink Wellington boot. A glass container was put inside the boot and Josephine created another tied arrangements which consisted of Monkshood, lemon Carnations, pink Gerbas and other greenery.
Finally a galvanised watering can was filled with a mixture of greenery, bamboo and pink carnations.

Mrs Jackie Bateman thanked Josephine on behalf of the members. She said that everyone marvelled at Josephine’s creativity. The lucky members were invited to take home the arrangements in their containers.

Members will be attending the Federation’s Spring Council Meeting at Cleethorpes and a walk around Epworth followed by afternoon tea at the Lemon Tree has been arranged. Tickets were on sale for the Spring meeting of the Trent Group when the Elderberries Choir will entertain.

The speaker at Winteringham’s May Meeting will tell members about ‘Edward and Mrs Simpson’ and the competition is for a Royal Souvenir.
