Sandra Wilkinson asked for bags of unwanted clothes and accessories, to help the Fire Service and Under Fives, to be brought to the village hall on 24th February. The President then introduced Anne Millet, Community Fund Raiser for Lindsey Lodge Hospice. Anne was accompanied by her driver, Martin, and four ladies from the Winteringham and District fund raising group. The Lodge , opened nineteen years ago, provides day care for 14 patients and in-patient care in a ten bedded unit, the latter at the request of hospital or G.P. referral, giving end of life , respite or care during treatment to sufferers of cancer, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis and cardiac or pulmonary disease. The cost of running the Lodge is £1.9m annually, currently funded by £600,000 from the Primary care trust and the remaining £1,300,000 from fund raising. This will change with the proposed abolition of Primary Care Trusts, when negotiations will have to be initiated with G.P. consortia. A total of 250 volunteers are involved with fund raising in its many forms from the retail outlets accruing £650,000 per annum to individual donations of small sums. Rags and recycling credits, gift aid, general donations, special events such as the Sleepwalk, draws, a lottery, collecting boxes, house boxes, corporate and payroll giving and in memoriam gifts and legacies. In thanking Anne and her colleagues for this comprehensive insight into the work involved in this mission, Marjorie Smith said that the Hospice plays a vital role in the local community and touches the lives of nearly everyone at some time. She expressed admiration and gratitude for the constant work of both paid and volunteer staff that make it possible. Following the vote of thanks, Mrs Hammond declared the meeting proper closed.
