January 2007

After a very stormy and windy day, 15 members braved the weather to attend the January meeting of Winteringham W.I. They were thanked by the President, Jackie Bateman. The apologies received were recorded.

The minutes of the November Meeting were read and matters arising discussed. All members agreed that the Annual dinner held at Grandma’s Attic had been excellent. The room was beautifully decorated and the staff were welcoming and friendly.

Correspondence received was presented by the secretary and the Federation News issue read through. It was noted that the Annual Council Meeting will be held in the Memorial Hall at Cleethorpes on 21st April 07.

The Christmas Meeting of the Trent Group, held in Winterton Methodist Church had been enjoyed by all who attended. The Junior School Choir had presented a varied and beautiful programme and the venue was very much appreciated. The next group event will be the Quiz on 17th April

An outing to Scawby Park to view the Snowdrops will take place on Wednesday 14th February. The walk will be followed by lunch at The Sutton Arms.

Other ideas for outings discussed included a trip to the theatre and a visit to the museums in Hull. In June the members will spend an evening at Burnby Hall Gardens with refreshments in the Tea Room and a Chinese Meal is planned in August at The Pearl City.

The president then handed over to Tony and Thora Fisher who showed slides of their American holiday when they had visited Yellow Stone Park and Mount Rushmore.

Thora explained about the problems with their flights, due to strike at the airline company but eventually they had arrived in Rapide City to begin their tour which would eventually end at Yellow Stone Park. They had gone through the Black Hills of Dakota, seen the Rushmore Monument, stayed at a dude ranch in Wyoming and travelled through the Big Horn Mountains. Eventually they arrived in Yellowstone Park.

The members enjoyed the slides of the park and the lake, saw pictures of a herd of buffalo migrating and they marvelled at the very dramatic shots of the Yellow Stone Falls. Thora explained that they had seen an actual cattle roundup on their journey to the largest log cabin in the world - The Yellowstone Inn where they stayed.

The pictures of the board walk through the thermal area where the hot springs rise ended with a shot of ‘Old Faithful’, the geezer which shoots skyward at regular intervals.

The president thanked Mr & Mrs Fisher on behalf of the members.

The Draw for the mystery parcels given by Yvonne and Marianne Ogg
was won by Mary Christofferson and Sue, a visitor to the W.I.

The competition for A Holiday Photograph was won by Val Hayton,
with Karen Moody in second place and Christine Hammond third.

The speaker at the meeting on 15th February will be from Hearing Dogs for the Deaf and the competition is for A Valentines Card.
