For their June Outing, the members of Winteringham W.I. travelled over the bridge to Hull to take part in a conducted tour of the BBC Studios in Queens Gardens.
The ladies all arrived safe and sound despite Hull being very busy as the Big Screen in Queen Victoria Square was showing one of England’s world cup matches.
Marcus Heald, one of the presenters of ‘West Enders’ showed the ladies around the studios and explained all the very high tech equipment which is now used to put together and transmit the programmes. A Humberside Radio programme was being transmitted but the ladies went into Studio 2 and Marcus demonstrated how the music was played and how the jingles were stored ready to go out on air.
Then it was into the T.V. studio and the ladies saw the set where each night Peter Levy presents his teatime news show. They were amazed to hear that Darren Betts is not actually in the studio but that his weather forecast is actually transmitted from Leeds and Peter sees it on a large screen. So when they are conversing together they are miles apart.
The ladies walked back across the beautiful Queens Gardens to their cars and journeyed to the Inn in the Park for a delicious meal.
Thanks were given to the secretary for arranging this excellent night out.
