Speaker - Canada- a photographic presentation by Alan Kitchen Alan and his wife (committee member) Margaret made the trip to Canada travelling east coast to west over a period of three weeks at the end of September last year. Making the flight by the skin of their teeth after a delay due to an accident on the M25, they flew to Montreal - a city which looks as if it is on the coast, but is actually 1000 miles inland. Illustrated by Alan's superb photographs on screen we travelled with them to Toronto, Quebec, Niagara and Ottawa, marvelling at the wonderful copper roofed buildings, clean cities with no litter and no bad behaviour and the breath-taking autumn scenery. Alan told us about the preparation made for winter when temperatures can fall to minus 40 degrees and the people move virtually underground to survive. Another 8 hour flight took them to the beautiful city and island of Vancouver where Stanley Park is as big as Wales! Their journey by coach through the Rockies followed, with impressive snow scenes and lakes made turquoise in colour by the minerals in the water. The first snow of the winter fell during their last days in Canada.
Marjorie Smith thanked Alan for stepping in at short notice after the booked speaker let us down and for his excellent presentation and commentary which had given us such a wonderfully vivid impression of Canada.
