Winteringham W.I. celebrated its 79th Birthday with a meeting in Winteringham Village Hall. The president, Mrs Jackie Bateman welcomed 23 members.

The business was swiftly dealt with and then the ladies were reminded of several forthcoming events. On 31st October members will be attending a production of ‘Pullin the Wool’ by the Broughton Dramatic Society. On 18th November a shopping trip to York has been organised and on Wednesday 22nd November Graham Boanas “The Man who walked the Humber” has agreed to return to the Village Hall to talk about his exploits. .

The president then introduced Jo Jipson from Body Shop at Home and members were treated to “An Evening of Pampering”.

She told the members some of the history of Body Shop. Members were amused when she told them that the first shop had been opened 30 years ago in Brighton and was situated between two undertakers. Because of this objections had been raised about the name ‘Body Shop’ but this had proved good publicity for the business and shoppers had flocked to buy the products.

At that time there were 25 products to choose from. There are now over 1,200. All products are inspired by natural ingredients and are ethically produced.  All packaging can be recycled and nothing is tested on animals.

Jo then told the members about a number of the products and demonstrated how to use some products. Several members were treated to a hand massage.

The committee had organised a supper of pies and mushy peas followed by fresh fruit salad and cream. Members were also able to enjoy a glass of wine or tea/coffee.

The draw took place for a gift donated by Jo from the Body Shop range and numerous other prizes donated by the committee. The competition for A Piece of Costume Jewellery was judged by Jo. The president reminded members that at the meeting on 16th November, Mr Derek Tindle will be talking about his Falcons.
