Over thirty members and their guests gathered together in the Village Hall to celebration the 80th Anniversary of the formation of Winteringham W.I.

Mrs Christine Wood, the president ,welcomed members past and present and two ladies from Humberside Federation. The ladies then gathered together for photographs and the singing of Jerusalem.

The birthday cake had been baked by Mrs Margaret Burton and decorated beautifully by Mr Paul Cook, the husband of one of the members. The president invited Mrs Peggy Bell, one of the W.I.s longest standing members to cut the cake.

Business was kept very much to the minimum but the secretary reminded the members that tickets were on sale for the Trent Group on 23rd October when the speaker will be the Housekeeper from Chatsworth House. This year the Christmas Shopping Trip will be to Nottingham on 17th November and the Annual Dinner on Thursday 13th December will once again be held at The Loft in Brigg.

The delicious dinner cooked and served by Steve Lock and his team was enjoyed by the ladies and whilst they finished off their glasses of wine each lady received a small ‘birthday gift’.

The president then introduced Judith Hibbert, an international soprano and comedienne. Judith took the ladies on a delightful musical journey where she not only sung the songs of Stanley Holloway, Gracie Fields and other well known entertainers but she became the singers and acted out the songs.

Her rendition of Stanley Holloway’s monologue ‘Tuppence a Trip’ was hilarious and the ladies laughed until tears came to their eyes as she presented Joyce Grenville’s Stately as a Galleon.

Unfortunately all good things come to an end and Judith closed with Wish Me Luck As You Wave me Goodbye. The vote of thanks was given by Christine Hammond. She said that Judith had begun by singing ‘I could Have Danced All Night’ and the ladies of Winteringham W.I. could have listened to Judith all night.
